What homeowners ask
Homeowners ask with a problem in hand. “My water heater is leaking. Is there a plumber in Hayward who can come today?” The panel also covers knob-and-tube rewiring in Oakland, a roof leak in San Jose before the rain, a lawn-to-drought-tolerant conversion with a rebate, and rats in the attic in San Mateo with a pet-safe treatment. The job, the timing and the city all have to line up before an assistant will name a contractor.
License classes as signals
Each trade has its own CSLB classification, and the niche pages name them: C-36 for plumbing, C-20 for HVAC, C-10 for electrical, C-39 for roofing, C-27 for landscaping, C-33 for painting, B for general contractors, and C-46 or C-10 for solar. A license number shown on the site and kept consistent with state records gives an assistant something concrete to verify. Pest control uses the Structural Pest Control Board.
Service areas and seasons
The plumber page asks for “The cities you serve listed clearly, with response time expectations.” That one signal decides many plain requests such as “Plumber in Richmond.” Seasonal signals matter too: HVAC content timed for heat waves and cold snaps, roofing content for the rainy season, and Bay Area specifics like the appliance rules on heat pumps. The monthly cadence of the observatory lets those seasonal questions be read in the months customers ask them.
