Bay Area AEO describes what happens when a business gets in touch. The steps double as the opening of the observation record.
| Step | In the agency's words | Observation record |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | A short call to learn about the business and the customers it wants more of. | The services, places and customers that shape the question set |
| 2 | A free AI visibility check: the questions customers ask, and what ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google's AI say today. | The baseline: the first saved answers on each platform |
| 3 | A walkthrough of what AI currently says about the business and its competitors. | The baseline readings explained, competitors included |
| 4 | A suggested starting point: many businesses start with the location or service that matters most and expand once they see AI answers change. | The first panel, sized to the starting location or service |
The baseline
The free AI visibility check puts the questions customers ask to the major assistants, Google's AI included, and records what they say. Those saved answers are the baseline. Everything after is read against them: the same questions, the same platforms, a later date.
The walkthrough that follows shows the owner what AI currently says about the business and its competitors. In observatory terms, it is the first reading of all four measures, delivered in plain English with the answers on screen.
A monthly turn of the cycle
Once work begins, the cycle repeats each month. The panel runs on all six platforms, the answers are saved, and the four readings are taken. The new layer is compared with the baseline and the previous month. The report shows the real answers before and after, then names the next steps: a listing to correct, a page to write, a guide to pursue.
Expanding the panel
Many businesses start with the location or service that matters most and expand once they see AI answers change. When they do, new questions join the panel with a fresh baseline of their own. The original rows continue unchanged, so the first location's history stays intact while the second begins.

Questions owners ask about the cycle
Owners starting a cycle tend to ask the same three things, and Bay Area AEO answers each one on its site. On timing: Listing and data fixes can start showing up in AI answers within a few weeks, because many assistants pull live information. Content, reviews and third-party mentions build over two to four months. On platforms: the panel covers ChatGPT, Google Gemini and AI Overviews, Perplexity, Claude and Microsoft Copilot, and voice assistants draw on the same data. On websites: Usually not needed. Bay Area AEO works with a business's existing site and adds what AI needs: clear service pages, FAQs, structured data and accurate business details.
Each answer fits the cycle. Listing work starts showing in the first re-tests; content and mentions show over the next few; the platforms are fixed columns of the panel; and an existing site becomes the place where answer-ready pages and structured data are added.
The record the business keeps
Every cycle leaves a record: the panel questions, the saved answers for each month and platform, and the four readings taken from them. It is a plain history of what AI said about the business, month after month. That record is what lets a business see its own progress in real answers, and it is the material this observatory describes on every page.
