The signal

Specific reviews are the second AEO signal: customers describe what the business does best, in their own words. The food and drink page explains why it matters. Reviews that mention specific dishes, the atmosphere and the occasion give AI phrases it pulls straight into its answers. A review that says “great service” gives an assistant little to repeat. A review that names the treatment, the result and the neighborhood gives it a reason.

What the index measures

The index reads a business's recent public reviews for specificity. It notes whether reviews name a service or product, describe an outcome or experience, mention a place, or name a staff member. The count of reviews matters less than the share that carry these details, because those are the reviews whose words appear in AI answers.

The description-accuracy reading closes the loop. When an assistant says a dentist is “gentle with anxious patients,” the index shows whether that phrase is grounded in what patients wrote.

Review themes by niche

The niche pages say what good review language looks like for each kind of business.

Table. Review themes named on selected niche pages, in the agency's words.
NicheWhat the page asks reviews to capture
DentistsReview requests that invite patients to mention comfort, specific treatments and staff by name, which AI repeats in its answers.
ChiropractorsReviews that mention the condition and outcome in the patient's own words, gathered compliantly.
Massage TherapyReviews that mention the treatment and result, which AI quotes directly.
Boba & Tea ShopsEncouraging customers to mention specific drinks in reviews, which gives AI the phrases it repeats.
Gyms & Personal TrainingReview language about community, cleanliness and coaching quality, which AI uses to describe gyms.
Property ManagementReviews from both owners and tenants, which AI uses to judge reputation.
Staffing AgenciesReviews from client companies and candidates, gathered fairly and responded to professionally.
Mortgage BrokersLender reviews on Zillow and Google that mention loan type and experience.
House CleaningReviews that mention consistency and reliability over time.
PaintersReviews that mention the project, the home and the experience.

Two-sided businesses

Some businesses serve two groups, and AI reads both. Property managers are judged on reviews from owners and tenants; staffing agencies on reviews from client companies and candidates. The index reads each side separately, because an assistant answering an owner's question and one answering a tenant's question may lean on different reviews.

Genuine reviews only

Bay Area AEO states that accuracy beats volume and that it never uses fake reviews, spam or tactics that could backfire. The review side of its Citations & Reviews service is a process that gets real customers describing what the business does best. In health care the chiropractor page adds that review language is gathered compliantly. The index measures what genuine customers write; it is a guide to asking well, and nothing more.

When review language shows up

Review language builds one customer at a time. The published timeline puts reviews with content and third-party mentions at two to four months. Over that stretch the index shows specificity rising in recent reviews, and the description reading shows assistants starting to use the new phrases.

Asking for specific reviews

The dentist page describes review requests that invite patients to mention comfort, specific treatments and staff by name. The boba page suggests encouraging customers to mention specific drinks. Both are ordinary requests, made to real customers after a real visit, and both make it easier for a customer to say something an assistant can reuse.
